Each week, Careers in the Common Good hosts an informal discussion about CCG-related topics, moderated by a guest speaker and often featuring panels of alums working in third sector and associated fields. Join us for free coffee* and enlightening conversation.
Sept. 29: Career Pathways in Public Education—Hear from Dulari Tahbildar '00, Executive Director of Providence Summerbridge; Janet Santos '02 UEP '07, Program Manager at Jobs for the Future; Kath Connolly '89, Director of Partnerships at the Learning Community School in Central Falls; Professor Dan Bisaccio, Director of Science Education for Brown's MAT program; Liz Richards from Brown's Urban Education Policy masters program; and Searcy Milam, Associate Director of Recruitment from Uncommon Charter Schools, about the many pathways in this exciting field. Co-sponsored by the Education Department.
Oct. 6: Idealist.org—Kara Montermoso '99 from idealist.org will share some tips about finding a nonprofit job or internship, and her personal story.
Oct. 13: Philanthropic Work—Stacy Palmer '82 is Editor of the Chronicle of Philanthropy, a weekly must-read for anyone managing a nonprofit. She will share her story and perspective on the nonprofit world and the importance of fund development and giving.
Oct. 20: Money Part I: Nonprofit Salaries and Loan Forgiveness—Learn more about how to make smart financial decisions while learning about nonprofit salaries, loan deferment options, and managing your debt. Co-sponsored by the Student Financial Services office.
Oct. 27: "Direct Trade" in the Coffee Industry—Rik Kleinfeldt MA'90 (History), Founder and President of the RI-based company New Harvest Coffee Roasters, will share his experience establishing a company with a more transparent form of trade, "direct trade."
Nov. 3: Brown Masters Programs for the Public Good—Meet faculty and students from the Masters Programs in Public Policy, Public Humanities, Urban Education Policy, Masters in Teaching, Public Health, and Environmental Studies.
Nov. 10: Public Art and Community Development—Meet artists working for social change! Co-sponsored by the Creative Arts Council and RISD's Office of Public Engagement. NOTE TIME & LOCATION CHANGE: 6:30-7:30 p.m. in JWW 310.
Nov. 17: Money, Part II: Managing Your Personal Finances and Credit—Examine your attitudes about money and think about your future financial decisions; this session will focus on the importance of credit and your credit report.
Dec. 1: Where Are All the Community Internships?—Co-sponsored by the University/Community Advising Program.
