Fellowships
Fellowships are sources of funding that enable people to get involved in their area of interest:
- Fellowships are available for travel, study, research, and other endeavors
- Fellowships are offered by individuals, foundations, the government, schools, and other people or groups interested in sponsoring good work
- Some fellowships provide a small amount of funding, and others provide enough to support the recipient for some time period
- Fellowships have various application procedures, and are focused on all areas of interest (eg.: public interest work, community service, scientific research, policy research, arts, education, etc)
- Funders can have very specific intentions (for example, a RI resident who wants to study art education) and others support broad definitions of creativity
Fellowship Tip: Think about all the various categories you could fall into. Research funding from all of those perspectives; for example, geographic location of study, your home, or constituency affected.
How can the Career Development Center help in the fellowship process?
The Career Development Center can assist students in the process of researching fellowship opportunities and identifying sources of funding. Staff are available through counseling appointments to begin discussions on areas of interest, offer advice on applications, and critique resumes and essays.
