The World Wide Web is a great source for academic job listings. Academic positions are also listed in the publications of professional associations in your discipline. Many of the websites listed below also have listings for post-doctoral and administrative positions. Don't forget to check with your advisors for additional resources-- they're often the best source of inside knowledge on who's hiring.
Academic job ads are often the product of departmental wrangling and negotiation. As a result, they sometimes ask for an odd range of traits and competencies in a prospective candidate. How do you read a job ad to determine what the search committee is really looking for?
Featured Article: "What do Those Job Ads Really Say?" by Jean Dowdall. The Chronicle of Higher Education.
Focuses on ads for two administrative positions, but shows you how to read a job ad carefully.
