Resumes

A resume is intended to express your qualifications for a specific job and is meant to be a summary of your skills, experience and education. A well-written resume will convey competency and pique the interest of an employer. The resume is a tool to open the door to an interview.

Employers will spend approximately 15-30 seconds reviewing a resume to pre-screen for positions. Put your best foot forward by tailoring your resume to specific positions. To do that, you need to research the skill set that is sought by the industry and organization you are pursuing. Your resume should demonstrate your fit for the position, that you offer what they seek.

Your resume should be 1 page in length. Our Resume Writing Tip Sheet provides detailed information (formatting, structure, and helpful hints) as well as samples. Once you have used that handout to write your draft, bring your resume to Walk-in Hours to have it critiqued.

In addition, we have an online workshop on resume writing that can be used to create a draft.
