How to choose a graduate PROGRAM:
Conducting informational interviews with Brown alumni who completed a graduate degree in your field(s) of interest can be a great source of information. Learning more about what to expect from different graduate programs and gathering information from people who went through the process will help you make an informed decision about your future graduate training.
Graduate school programs (Masters and PhDs):
Various Masters programs will have different emphases on research and/or practical training. However, most PhD programs aim at training researchers who will later become university professors. Hence, most PhD programs require their students to develop their own research line in collaboration with an dissertation advisor within a specific program or department. Importantly, the process of applying for and getting a PhD has very little in common with the application process and requirements of an undergraduate education. Therefore, we encourage you to clarify your goals, explore your options and make decisions based on the kinds of programs that will best meet your goals.
