Putting iT all together

Once you have clarified a few of your goals (issue or type of skills or geographical region where you would like to be), your job search is going to be much easier. If you need help clarifying your goals, please see our self-assessment page or make an appointment with a counselor who will be happy to help you identify a priority list and set up an action plan regarding your transition from Brown to a Career in the Common Good.

Career exploration, networking and a proactive job search attitude are also essential to a productive job search in Careers in the Common Good.

The following links are a way for you to start exploring options. We encourage you to also consider making an appointment with a counselor to help you set up strategies that will enable you to explore options and resources related to your individual goals. Remember that there are a number of other resources on the Brown Campus to help you explore your options regarding fellowships, graduate school, and job searching and Careers in the Common Good.

Finding Short-Term Work Abroad - Advice on work permit and strategies to find work abroad.

Finding a position abroad demands more persistence and energy than any other job search. By narrowing down your interests or the parts of the world you would like to be in, you will enable yourself to gain valuable time by finding the resources you need more easily. Here are a few sites to get started, but note that this list is by no means exhaustive, and you will need to conduct your own searches to find out more about the specific opportunities that will match your interests.

Finding alumni clubs in the part of the world you are interested in will help you gather valuable information before you leave and will enable you to find a community more easily once you move to the country. For a list of Brown Alumni clubs abroad, scroll down to international. For tips on networking, click here.

In addition to the resources below, the international development pages from the University of Sussex might also be helpful in your career exploration and job search.
